Karanga Camp Elevation/Altitude of the Karanga Hut Campsite: 4040 m.a.m.s.l.

The Karanga Camp or Karanga Hut Campsite, having got its name from the Karanga Valley which cuts across Kibo’s Southern side cutting through Kilimanjaro national park, the Karanga hut campsite is an overnight resting point used by climbers via the Lemosho, Shira, Umbwe, and Machame routes, climbing towards Mount Kilimanjaro’s  summit

Karanga Camp/Karanga Hut campsite can be used as a point to rest for lunch or for an overnight stay depending on your route itinerary and sometimes duration.

In the event that it is to be used as a stopover for lunch, then Barranco (before) and Barafu (after) camps are used for overnight stays. No matter which route you choose though, they all pass through the Karanga valley.

Here at Karanga Camp cabin accommodations are not present, leaving you with the only option of pitching tents.

The only structures present at the Karanga huts campsite are pit latrines otherwise known as dry toilets a wooden hut that serves as the Rangers hut located on the western side of the campsite just near the Karanga valley.

Climbers using this campsite for accommodation are required to have their own accommodation in the form of tents

Location of Karanga Campsite

Karanga Campsite also known as Karanga Hut Camp or simply, Karanga Camp is situated on the edge of the Karanga valley, south of the Kibo volcanic cone and along the edge of the moorland zone of Mount Kilimanjaro.

When climbing Kilimanjaro while heading to the Karanga huts campsite, you have to go through the Karanga valley itself.

Karanga Huts campsite receives an average amount of precipitation in the form of rainfall and humidity The Campsite itself is surrounded by vegetation. The Next campsite after the Karanga huts campsite is the Barafu hut Camp.
