Tarangire National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Arusha, heading southwest toward Tarangire National Park a hidden gem often overlooked but rich with wildlife. Known for its sweeping savannahs dotted with ancient baobab trees, Tarangire comes alive in the dry season, but even in the green months of calving season, it’s teeming with life. As you drive through the park, keep your eyes open for massive herds of elephants, which are among the largest in Tanzania. You may also spot tree-climbing lions, giraffes, buffalo, and a variety of antelope species. The Tarangire River, the park’s lifeline, is a great place to watch animals congregate. After a leisurely game drive and picnic lunch in the wild, you’ll either overnight at a lodge near the park or begin your journey toward the Serengeti region, with a stop in the Karatu area to break up the drive.

Karatu - Southern Serengeti

After an early breakfast, you continue your journey to the world-famous Serengeti National Park, heading specifically to the Ndutu region in the southern plains, where the magic of the calving season unfolds. From late January to March, this area becomes the epicenter of the Great Migration, as over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born within a few short weeks. The abundance of vulnerable young attracts a high concentration of predators; lions, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals offering some of the most dramatic wildlife sightings anywhere on earth. You’ll spend the day on game drives across the open plains, watching newborn calves take their first steps and witnessing the tension between predator and prey in this rich ecosystem. As the sun sets, you’ll return to a mobile tented camp or lodge in Ndutu, perfectly positioned to maximize your wildlife viewing

Southern Serengeti

You’ll wake up to the sounds of the wild and head out early to catch the best light and wildlife activity. The southern Serengeti’s short grass plains stretch endlessly before you, creating an ideal backdrop for observing large predator hunts. Cheetahs are especially active in this region during the calving season, using the open terrain to stalk their prey, while prides of lions patrol the grasslands. The day’s game drives may also take you to hidden marshes and woodlands near Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek, which offer a welcome contrast in habitat and wildlife. Expect to see elephants and dozens of bird species. You’ll have the option for a full-day game drive with a packed lunch or split the day into morning and afternoon drives. As night falls, enjoy a fireside dinner under the stars, sharing stories of the day’s sightings with your guide.

Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, you’ll depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, ascending the lush highlands before descending into the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most spectacular wildlife havens on the planet. This massive volcanic caldera is home to around 25,000 large animals, including the endangered black rhino, large prides of lions, and huge herds of buffalo and wildebeest. The crater floor offers a remarkable mix of grassland, swamps, forest, and a soda lake, all within a 260-square-kilometer area. With luck, you may complete the “Big Five” today. A picnic lunch near the hippo pool allows for a break amid the surreal scenery. After a full day exploring this natural wonder, you’ll ascend the crater walls and begin the drive back to Arusha (or overnight nearby, depending on your schedule), filled with unforgettable memories of Tanzania’s wild beauty during one of its most extraordinary seasons.
